home again home again jiggidy jig….
It’s nice to be home. It was great to see my family.
I’m behind in a million things but it’s all good.
I’m playing catch-up.
It’s not always a fun game.
But it’s usually entertaining.
I took lots of photos and I have lots of stories to tell but not now.
Too much work to do.
hangin’in.
quick recap for the kids:
ali…i like your journal! i added your link to my sidebar.
see you in 3 days if you don’t count today or friday…….
on the road again…..
I totally and completely love driving.
It calms me. It gives me time to think.
Long stretches of road in front of me and behind me.
Something about anonymity?
It’s very compelling.
I stopped at my sister Laurel’s home last night.
Today I drive another 5 or so hours to another sister’s home, Natalie.
It’s fun to see family and get to know their kids a little better.
Still looking for a new place to move into and someone to move into my current space.
Still working via the internet and cell phone.
Still me.
quick recap for the kids:
hope the wedding went well, miss you.
mom
a nurse, too…..
Been taking care of a post-surgical patient the past few days. He’s really quite a trooper.
That sounded so official but it’s really just been fun.
It’s fascinating to watch Joe go through a new experience. We are very similar in the way that no matter what the experience is, we view it as writing material. Every feeling and thought must be acknowledged and put in place to be written about and explained later. I could have just chopped off my left foot and I’d be thinking about how I was going to write about it. Joe has gauze packed in his cheeks, can’t say a darn thing intelligibly, has bloody saliva dripping out of the side of his mouth and is barely conscious because his surgery just ended 20 minutes ago but keeps writing down everything so he can relay it accurately later. I love watching his mind work. Maybe I love it just because it reminds me of myself. I don’t know. Something to think about.
It’s funny to me that even though I’ve had my wisdom teeth out years ago and had babies and had surgery and anesthesia and the whole thing, I’m experiencing it through Joe’s eyes and it’s different.
Been busy working my three jobs. I like the flexibility of working from home most of the time. It allows me to get more work done than if I had to physically be at the work sites all day.
A guy in New York wanted me to send him some of my paintings for a gallery show. He also wanted me to send him $250.00. I told him I’d think about it. That means no.
I really like this quote:
“I have tried out numerous professions just to find myself right where I belong, as a starving artist. (The best diet I have ever found.)”

I am considering…..
I am considering…..
A trip to Utah.
A trip to Utah.
I am considering….
That, my friends, is a really lame attempt to imitate a song called A Move to Memphis by The Colorblind James Experience.
I’ve been going back and forth about going for a variety of reasons, but I believe this is my final answer, Regis. I’m leaving Sunday and coming home in one week. I’ll get to see 5 of my siblings plus my parents (bonus!) during those 7 days.
This trip brought to you by my sister Rhoda and her husband Dave which would have liked our oldest sister Natalie to come and visit them in Washington. Rhoda wanted to sneak a turn at taking care of Natalie’s two youngest: Laura May, 1.5 years and Nicole Noelle, 2.5 months. Natalie couldn’t go to Washington due to the responsibility of her other 4 children ( ! ) but will instead get ME for a week and she’ll hopefully get some much needed rest while I get to play with the little girls! It’s a win-win…except for the fact that Rhoda doesn’t get to see the babies…..
My ex-husband is getting married this weekend. It’s a strange feeling. I wish them the best.
My website is revamped courtesy of Joe. Look at it if you have time. I now have an art therapy page.
quick recap for the kids:
i’m a going on a trip, be back soon, call my cell anytime, i’ll miss you more since i’ll be farther away…it’s a law of distance/ratio or something. you all have a page on my site. they are blank! help me decide what to put there!
much LOVE

today’s joke:
Goin’ to Church
One Sunday morning a little girl in her Sunday best was running so she wouldn’t be late for church. As she ran she kept praying, ÒDear God, please don’t let me be late to church. Please don’t let me be late to church….Ó And, as she was running she tripped and fell. When she got back up she began praying again, ÒPlease, God don’t let me be late to church — but don’t shove me either!
looky at this cool idea….
that I bumped into while scanning through the archives on the site Arts and Crufts . It’s called Art-o-mat . This is the best idea I’ve seen in ages. You get a chance to re-use old and out of date cigarette machines for a great purpose: small affordable art for the masses that visit art galleries! I can’t wait to participate. It isn’t really for making money. I think you make about a dollar on each one…maybe….but that doesn’t matter. That’s not what it’s about. I’m so excited about the whole idea. Now I just need some time to do it…..hrm.
Have a meeting with Shannon tomorrow morning. She is going to feature me in a few weeks here . We’re discussing an ongoing feature that will showcase all the different styles of art I do. I think the book will come into play somehow as well. Can’t wait to see how it will all work out.
My roommate Craig has his mother coming into town tomorrow morning for the weekend. This Saturday is his big shindig. He’s been cleaning like a mad man…..
See my kids Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon this weekend. Can’t wait!
Happy Birthday to my sister, Rhoda. *kiss*
That’s it for now. Tune in next time.

Actual School Excuse Notes
These are excuse notes from parents (with their original spelling) collected by schools from all over the country:
1) My son is under a doctor’s care and should not take P.E. today. Please execute him.
2) Please excuse Lisa for being absent. She was sick and I had her shot.
3) Dear School: Please exscuse John being absent on Jan. 28, 29,30, 31, 32, and also 33.
4) Please excuse Gloria from Jim today. She is administrating.
6)Chris will not be in school cus he has an acre in his side.
7) Please excuse Ray Friday from school. He has very loose vowels.
Please excuse Pedro from being absent yesterday. He had (diahre) (dyrea) (direathe) the runs. [words in ( )'s were crossed out.]
9) Please excuse Jimmy for being. It was his father’s fault.
10)Please excuse Jennifer for missing school yesterday. We forgot to get the Sunday paper off the porch, and when we found it Monday, we thought it was Sunday.
11) Sally won’t be in school a week from Friday. We have to attend her funeral.

in my little world…..
So I got the column.
On Saturday, Joe and I went to a meeting and met the publisher and
editors of Writers Monthly. They were happy to see me but mostly I
think because I had brought with me my very own webgeekguru for
their use. David Boyne had lots of nice things to say about us,
including the following I received in an email the next day:
… The gods sent me a brilliant new columnist who has more talent
than she knows what to do with, and a kick-butt web geek who not
only speaks fluent English, but is charming, sincere, has a great
sense of humor and can communicate with mortals…..
Joe wasn’t even going to get involved in this project, but he has
somehow been added to the list of ‘people working on the
magazine’. I’m glad. I look forward to working on a project with him.
And he’s getting into it, too.
I also got wind of another column/journalist position that pays real
money, thanx to Lilia of digitElle…….we’ll see how that transpires.
And I’d like to take a moment for station identification and thank our
sponsors.
My parents read to me and my siblings on Saturday and Sunday
nights when I was growing up. I don’t mean little kid books. I’m
talking about real literature like Little Women and
Little Menby Luisa May Alcott or books by C.S. Lewis,
The Secret Garden by Tasha Tudor,
A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett to name a few…..
and my father had a never ending supply of wonderful poetry and prose
he would read us or recite to us from memory. The love of books, reading
and using words as expression was instilled in me very, very young. My
library card was one of my most prized possessions.
I read everything I could get my hands on. And asking what a word was
or meant was never laughed at or looked down on. We were encouraged
to understand what we were listening to or reading.
And THAT is what I want to thank my
parents for…..a vocabulary of more than the standard 50 words. I
love words. I use words. And I have many to pick from because I
heard them early on and consistently.
Back to our regularly scheduled program….
I had a great weekend. Really, really wonderful.
Did nothing much.
Nothing really exciting.
And in that, my friends, is the secret to a great, approximately 50
hour weekend.
I am continually blessed. It never stops. I’m so thankful.
quick recap for the kids:

ZAFTIG
“Zaftig: a Yiddish word meaning ripe or luscious and is commonly applied to curvaceous women.”
Taken from the front inside cover of the book ZAFTIG, THE CASE FOR CURVES by Edward St. Paige, author of many other books. some of which are examinations of various aspects of our social history.
I love this book. It contains so many wonderful paintings, drawings and quotes that show how the female form is beautiful and touches on how sometimes ‘larger and curvier’ is considered more feminine, fertile and preferable. The pages are filled with gorgeous women that posed for famous painters like Rembrandt, Diego Rivera, Renoir, Picasso and Lord Leighton who did one of my favorite paintings on page 50 called ‘Flaming June’. I think I saw it for the first time at the Getty in L.A. a few years ago although I could be wrong…I’ve been to many galleries over the years. In any case, I remember the impact it had on me. The color and figure in it are amazing and move me.
I quoted a couple of lines the other day in my blog. Here are a few more I love.
From page 134,
Fatness at it’s best is associated with moistness, fertility and kindness (a sociable and giving nature) as well as with happiness, vitality and bodily health in general. People know that drinks and warm moist, cooked food can fatten them, while cold rice, overnight food (leftovers), and dryers such as store-bought crackers usually cannot. Fatness connotes fullness and juicy ripeness, like that of ripe fruit well sweet and soon to burst.
Lisa J. Sobo describing the Jamaican feminine ideal from Many Mirrors, 1994
From page 138,
She was very beautiful, even though her status as a singer was only second-rate. All the same, he was more interested in her as a woman than as a singer. She certainly was desirable. Her folds of flesh and fat would warm a chilly man during the bitter cold of winters, which was at hand.
Naguib Mahfouz from Palace Walk, 1989
Today is 03, 03 of 03. That’s three threes which makes it my sister Rhoda’s favorite day. Ever. Period.
quick recap for the kids:
beauty is everywhere and in almost everything, be proud of who you are.
much love,
mom
ps. the new strongbad is WAY funny….don’t forget to look for the hidden stuff.
I don't get it.
That’s all we needed….another reality show.
When did watching other people date and get married become entertainment? I’m not sure I understand the whole genre of reality television. My room mate loves to watch the dating shows. I’ve sat with him and tried to enjoy them and see what he sees. But I just don’t get it. Why would I want to sit there and watch other people act like idiots when I can do it in real life all on my own? At any time? Not just from 7 to 8 pm on Wednesday nights?
After the generic dating they moved onto the Bachelor and the Millionaire guy and now we have a season coming on of people getting married by the votes of America. Total strangers getting married because people with no lives are glued to their TVs every week and will pick out a mate for them. That is SO weird!
And totally sad. What an unfulfilling life you must have to be willing to let a nation of television-aholics with no lives of their own pick out your ‘perfect mate.’ It could be I’m missing something. Maybe I just don’t get it. But I’d much rather go out and live life than live vicariously through people on TV. I’d rather go sky diving or sea diving or do any number of those things they do than watch someone else do it. I just don’t want to eat gross stuff. But I don’t think that’s so unusual…..
And how close to reality is it anyway? Not very. They should show second rate movies stars sitting at home and watching TV since that’s what America is really doing. That’s reality. I don’t know that many people living in the Amazon. Do you?
quick recap for the kids:
getting ready for a busy week, trying to show some paintings soon, had a GREAT weekend with you.
grande love,

Taking a day off…..
My kids are in town. Ty is doing my blog today.
Here is a poem he wrote and the paint image that goes with it.
He’s pretty talented!!
Hello and welcome to the show!!!!!!!
By: Tyler Peterson 185
Hello and welcome to the show!!!!!!!
Hello hello!!! My name is Bou and
Id like to begin the show.
So if you all dont make a sound and really calm down.
It can begin with no further pound.
The show is called No Room for the Boom.
And there is really a big boom that blows up a room.
So watch the show you will think its a blow,
And the show will never blow so watch the show
And it wont blow the shows about a guy named Joe,
That Joe some do too, some even call him T.J.
So heres the show No Room for the boom;
And than they all said, quoted of course,
Shut up with the booms and start the toons!!!!!
So I did the bid and started the show and they all
said Boo and Bee Dee Dee Dee Bow and left the show
I wonder why they fly in the sky,
One said as he left the room.
I showed them a picture of you in your teens
And they all crashed and tumbled and rolled.
For it looked like this…
